More than meets the eyes...
The assumption that all Puritans wore black all the time comes from the fact that they wore black on the Sabbath. According to historical research done by Professor Michael Chesson from the American College of History and Legal Studies; they dyed their clothes with vegetable dye, therefore, you could find Puritans dressed in any variety of colors. Puritans were found wearing bright, lively colors, on a day besides the Sabbath.
